Ed, like all CMS solutions, WordPress has it’s pros and cons. On the pro side, the depth and breadth of the ecosystem around WordPress make it an exceptionally strong platform. Building an advanced site with high-end designs and functionality costs much lower than any other solution available. Further, there are a number of hosting providers that specialize in WordPress – this means that getting quality support it easier.

The downside is that WordPress is an open system. This means that there are many extensions to the platform that have not been properly vetted or tested. Further, many site owners will try to customize their install of WordPress, which in turn can lead to numerous security issues and technical headaches.

My personal belief is that WordPress is for serious online entrepreneurs that absolutely need the open architecture and willing to deal with the cons of that environment. Closed systems, like Rainmaker Platform, are designed to solve specific technical problems so that the site owner can focus on the execution of their strategy without worry about the technology (this could be said of Shopify, Squarespace, and Wix when it comes to the benefit of a closed system).

There is no universal “right” answer – all CMS platforms are designed to meet a very specific challenge and their advantages are based on the distinct goals of the site owner.
